C-Balance

I've been using C-Balance from two little fishes to control my Ca and alk since I set up my tank....my alk is consistently 4 meq/l and my Ca is at about 380-400. Can I do this and then just use DI water to replace evap.....for my set up, its easier not to use Kalk.....am I missing out by not using Kalk?

Thanks

Pat

Sure if you keep levels where you want, its fine. Kalk is easier and cheaper on big tank tho, the 2 part get spendy if you have hi calc demanding sps or clams

I also use C-Balance and the only prob I had was when I ran out. I began to see a red slime algae and when I started dosing again with it it is slowly disapearing.

Jeff
PS noticed a rapid increase in Coraline algea too

I havent tried the C-balance but I have noticed very vigorous coralline growth with supplementing twice weekly with B-Ionic in addition to adding kalk with top off water. One of the problems I have with the kalk I think id dosing it from an open system lowering its pH from CO2 exposure. I paln on building a nilsen reactor similar to Bill-E's and add a pH monitor(hint hint Santa)

Bottom line is keeping you alk and calcium levels balanced. If you can add kalk to your tank and keep up with your tanks need for cal/alk you have found the cheapest and best addition. If not go to a calcium reactor. If you are shy about the cost go to a 2 part. If you are shy about that go to your choice with testing.
