By God, I Figured It Out!!!

for the past week or so i have been constantly posting threads looking for help about stopping sand (or so i thought) from floating around my tank due to the new flow that i got. then i came across this http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...hlight=bubbles. its not sand after, its these microbubbles thats clouding my tank! (sorry for all the stupid questions on sand and such ). i looked at my skimmer and carefully examined the "sand" in my tank and finally notcied that the "sand" particles are popping and the skimmer (ASM G-1X) is realeasing many bubbles from the return. I guess i never had bubbles before because since there was no flow as soon as the bubbles came out they dissipated, i dont know. whatever the case is, the question comes down to this, what to do about these micro bubbles. i read the thread and im a little unclear about the solutions. what is this filter sock? how will it help? could my sump be too small? its a 29gal. are my baffles unsuitable? there are three, about 3.5" apart and they go up, down, up. help is greatly appreciated.

ps. sorry for the long post and another stupid question

my baffles were over under over so i took the first over out and then i put a sponge on the under baffle and then i slowed my intake down so it didnt produce so many bubbles.

You can add a bubble trap to your sump: I assume that your skimmer is in the first chamber. If not, put it there. If it already is, triple the first baffle after the skimmer. Make it a under-over-under with baffles 1" apart. That's what I have in my sump and absolutely no bubbles get past it.

Another way is to have the skimmer output go into a sponge, that will reduce the bubbles a bit.

The filter sock is for the overflow discharge in to the sump. It is supposed to catch all bubles and debri from the tank. I am not sure if I like this idea because the debri stays in the water column, even if cleaned every week or day it may still polute the water, I am not sure since I don't have a sump.
You could place a foam block by the skimer discharge to help didipate the bubles before going back to the tank, or place the discharge as far as possible from the return pump. This may help.

I had the same problem and should have posted it for you (sorry) to check to make sure it was sand. I put a bubble trap on my protein skimmer and that helped a ton.

if you still have a problem posting the picture email it to me,
in your photo software click on edit, look for image size ( or something like that) change it to something like 600x400 hit okay
this will make it small enough to upload are an attachment.

how old is your skimmer? alot of times the need a good week to break in and have you play with it until you dial it in just right.
