The skimmer MOD
I did this for 2 reasons
1. to get rid of the waterfall sound
2. to make the skimmer more effeciant
supplies 3/4 pvc, T, cap, and "connector piece thingy" - slip /slip
take the connector piece thingy - possibly called a coupler attach to the "out" of your skimmer. attach a length of pvc that will carry the skimmed water away from the skimmer pump. ( ideally you would have it run over a baffle and dropinto another section of the sump, but my 20 long wouldn't fit remember
attach the pvc to a T use a short piece of pvc adn cap it for a stand pipe to reduce noise and place your 3rd piece of pvc dinto the water.
Done
a close up

and the overflow/drain and return plumbing.....
ok so i have this HOB ( hang on back) overflow box that I had to set up with the help of several trters - thanks guys!
sooooo
I needed to put a one inch bulkhead at teh bottom of the box
and plumb it from that
dmjedli drilled out the old pvc and a bigger hole in the box - way to go son!
after that I was able to stick pvc into the drain and make a tiny stand pipe that works eh ok ... welllll it's better then the toilet flushing sound, now it's a gurggle... ideas welcome here!
any who the bottom pipe dumps directly into the sump behind the tank
Here is what it looks like with out the U tube - U tube is VERY imporant in making this work, but yeah no pic of that yet.
overflow box that goes on outisde of tank
full length shot
tiny pipe stand
internal box hooked up to external box ( no u tube) but cheto in the overflow box
and the return plumbing - it's run by a Mag 3
so yeah it's all back together now!

Looks great, thanks for sharing! What are the livestock plans for this one? Just let everything grow, or are you still adding stuff to it?

Looks great Amy! Don't be too shocked if you get some extra diatoms for a bit after switching the sand out
In a month I'm willing to put money on the fact that your Nitrate will be 5 or less,... if you can leave it alone

What? You're coming to visit soon. That's cool.....I know its soon because Amy is anxious to get the lights installed and I think you'd rather run the lights around the block with just the lights and not the canopy too.

You want dinner at your house tonight and you have that HUGE MESS! Sorry, but the grandchild will be at my house along with dinner. Hey, does the huge mess upstairs mean that your scrapbook room is getting cleared out?

I like the new sand. it looks cleaner.. but that probably has nothing to do with keeping fish alive, I just think it pretty.

livestock:
since this is the family tank submissions were taken into consideration a list compiled and votes take. ( I just happen to have overriding veto power)
Here is what is in the tank
1 * yellow tang
1 * 6 line wrasse
1 * blue green chromis - trading him in
ONE of these guys - vote is still out
midas blenny
twin spot blenny
hi fin goby
green and yellow clown goby
black cap bassalet
Clown fish - most likely a false perc... ( I miss my clown)
that would be 8 fish most very small

I wish! I don't think my car would make it at this point anyway, certinally not without a distributer ignition advance I think that was a joke from one of the stuge threads,.. Amy was changing her sig with every step the lights made and I asked "If I come over grab the lights and go running around the block with them will you be forced to stick at your computer indenifantly changing your sig?"

Ya,.. I know Amy,.. but I'm hoping if I keep saying that she needs to leave it alone it'll sink in Secretly though,.. I used to have the same problem,.. That's how messing with a tank too much got coined as "Whiskeyizing it",.. But I've recovered and the coral have never been happier.

That's right,.. you have gotten allot better Now if we could just get you to go months without fiddling Aside from feeding and water changes of course. Oh,.. and maybe now that your lights don't have switches you will get a timer for them
