No, good husbandry and a well designed tank along with proper feeding will take care of algae. Dont add a quick fix as they dont fix the problem. They can actually add to it. Never add anything there isnt a test kit for.

I only have a ph test kit. When I first entered the hobby my LFS told me that was all I needed.

PH will fluctuate over the course of the day. Reverse lighting if you have a sump will stabilize it some but making sure the house has fresh air from outside will also make a difference in keeping it in line. The house will loose the percentage of oxygen as the day progresses and we breath it all up, this will have a negative affect on the PH. Get some frexh air in the house daily.

ok. when I was using purple up I didn't have the algae problem but when I stoped that was when It started
