Bubble problem...

Yesterday I changed out a 12 year old Eheim return pump that was in the sump. Replaced it with a bigger Eheim and plumbed it externally. The flow is much better although it's a good bit noisier.

The real problem is micro bubbles in the display. I don't think that it's the skimmer because it still does it with the skimmer off. I've redirected the flow of return but no good. I guess the bubbles are being generated by the new pump but I just don't know how to get rid of them...

Help, please!

Since it is a larger pump it is pulling the water through the sump faster and most likely the bubbles just don't have the time they use to, to get to the surface. You may need to add an extra baffle or something (like a sponge) to help with them.

can you post a shot of your sump? i would think its the increased flow too, maybe a pick will help everyone give you ideas on what to do though.

There's a good chance that the pump is pulling in air. Did you ensure your connections are air-tight?

The "good bit noisier" is probably due to cavitation (the bubble problem).

What method did you use to plumb it externally (drilled bulkhead, over the top etc...)?

It's plumbed externally with a bulkhead. Let me know if the pic is not clear enough...
