Brown hair algae
Is brown hair algae any different than green in the causes and cures? I have noticed alot of it popping up in my tank since I took out all the fish.

oh ... and I guess I should mention that it started only on the sand bed, but is now moving into the rockwork.

Hmm...sounds like cyanobacteria or red slime to me (if it started on sand and now onto the rocks). How about a pic? Does it come off of the rocks or sand easily or is it attached?

I syphoned it all off the sand yesterday, and scrubbed it off the rock this morning, so I cannot get a pic right now. It comes off very easily. Its dark brown long strands

That's kinda weird, I thought hair algae was difficult to remove? Maybe someone with more HA experience will help.

Thanks for the pic. That looks like cyano to me, not hair algae. I'd recommend that you skim wet, do a couple of water changes, blow detritus off the rocks nightly for a week and then once a week, and also siphon off detritus from the sandbed. I had a cyano outbreak for about a month. Good cleaning and increased flow helped get rid of it.
