Brown Banded Bamboo Shark
Hey everyone, I am looking at getting a brown banded bamboo shark and wanted some info. I am setting up a 125 gal tank and I wanted to know if there was anything special I needed to do to it? Also, how should I feed it? and what are some compatible tank mates?

Please don't get a shark and keep it in a small box, even bamboo sharks need and deserve more space than a 125. At the very least I think a 240 tho personally I wish they werent caught for the trade

Now, everything I have read says that this type of shark can be kept well in a 125.

I think what they are getting at is "can be kept" and "will be happy and healthy" are 2 different things. sharks can also be very difficult to keep and are very sensitive to stray electrical currents in your tank.

Chiloscyllium punctatum- can grow up to 42 inches. that is a little big for a 125g. there are smaller spieces that are more suitable for aquarium life, this is not one of them. as with all Elasmobranchii they should be able to turn around in the tank when fully grown. if you would like more info on some smaller spieces let me know, but all of them should be kept in a tank that is at least 24" wide. the height of the tank is irrelevant to Elasmobranchii so minimum gallon ratings are misleading.

Grew mine from an egg in a 40 gallon tank, kind of an experiment with my kids. Kept it for a few months. Gave it back to the LFS. He has it now in like a 200 gallon with a Nurse and a Grouper.
Don't forget , everything we keep in our(reef) tanks where ment to be in the ocean.

Yeah but plenty of species we can keep can be kept comfortably in a reasonable sized tank even in their adult size, without having to pass our responsibility for keepin that organism on to others.

That shark, eventually, won't be able to turn around in a 125.
