Brown Algae...

let me preface this post by saying I am completly new to the reef and fish experience.

Now that I know that the brown algae is caused by me feeding phyto-plex, I have stoped using it completly..I see that some you do glass cleaning and some grown your own live phyto, is glass cleaning enough for me?

I have only 2 corals right now 1 xenia and 1 zoanthid in a 55 gallon tank.

Also how do I get rid of that algae it is covering my live rock and live sand?

If this is a new tank,it's part of cycling.

the brown algae is likely because of the new tank. It's the tail end of the cycle. what else is in the tank??? My guess would be just sit back and wait. It should go away with time. Keep up with water changes. What are your paremeters. ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph,

A picture would help see if it's truly brown algae or not. Brown algae is due to a diatom bloom in the tank, usually seen in new tanks as diatoms bind all of the free silicates in the sand, rocks, and water. It will pass on it's own, but there are things you can do to speed up this process. First, make sure that the water you add to the tank is as pure as possible - ro/di water is ideal. Second, you can siphon out as much of the brown algae as possible every day or two. What I like to do is to use airline tubing and siphon into a clean 1 gallon jug. I would let the jug sit a couple of hours (the algae will settle to the bottom) and then pour the clear water back into the tank. I would repeat this process every night until the brown algae is gone, usually a week or two. You can also add sponges to the tank, and they will bind the silicates into their biomass. HTH, good luck.

Yep, looks like regular brown algae. i would stick with the previous recommendations. Your pH seems a bit low. Your nitrate is OK, but remember that brown algae is associated with silicates.
