Bristle worm trap

I have a bristle worm in my tank. I would like to get rid of it because

1. I would rather not get stuck with its bristles.
2. My girlfriend has a horrible fear of worms and would be seriously freaked out by it (she does not know about it yet).

So, I am wondering how to get rid of it. It is lodged in a rock.

I heard panty hose with shrimp work. Is that right? Have you actually tried this?

There is a Trap-Em trap. Has anyone has success with this?

Thanks,
Jamba

Chances are, you don't have one, you have many. The odds of getting rid of them all are slim. I don't know of any way to trap them, but the lined wrasses are known for eating them, and I've seen my Coral Banded Shrimp catch them.

chris is right, see one have 1000's
is it big ( say 3 inches and wide maybe 1/4 inch?) if so that is an adult and you have much more, if it is much smaller then that is a young one and you still have much more...
6 lined and 4 lined wrasses do like to munch them.

You could put the trap in for your girlfriend's ease of mind, but you'll never get them all as mentioned.

Ohmy

The one I saw is a biggie. I only saw about four inches but it is pretty wide. It is the only one I saw.

Now I am thinking, I used to change my filter without gloves and it felt like I had fiberglass in my hands. I thought it was the rocks in the filter as those were make of glass, but now I am thinking it might be the bristles from the worms.

Yikes.

I am trying the pantyhose treatment tonight. I put a piece of shrimp in the pantyhose and made it into a ball. I read the bristle worms will try to crawl into it to eat the food and get stuck in the panty hose. Anyone tried that one successfully?

The other is the Trap-Em product which is a baited trap where the worms crawl in but not out.

Are the wrasses compatible with other inverts (snails, hermit crabs)?

Thanks for the info.

six line are reef safe

my bicolor pseudochromis hunts bristleworms...i was originally worried about them, but they're no big deal, they eat left over detrious and if you dotn over feed they wont get to big. Some find them beneficial and you can even buy them.

i leave mine alone, they clean up waiste, i rarely see them if ever. (i ahvent seen one in weeks) and what not.

But if you want a shock, use a red light and view your tank a few hours after you turned lights off, you'll see all sorts of things you didnt know you had.

I have used this strap to transfer a few bristles from my reef to a friends nano. Worked well, I caught 6 worms in 1 night!

But honestly, they are one of the most beneficial things to have in your reef IMO.
