Brain troubles

Well, our Brain has not been doing too good for awhile now. I have tried every light combination that is possible. Today, now that it looks really bad I took a closer look at it and what I found was a hole. I could see something moving in there so I took the Brain out and tried to to prywhatever it was out. Well I finally got it out and it was destroyed. What I could make out of it it looked like some kind of crab or pod of some sort that bored down into it.

This brain has not had its feeders out in like three weeks and it has not expanded in the same amount of time, it has almost no color and I think that it is pretty much a goner. I am still trying to drop food right on it as much as I can to try to bring it back.

Does anyone know what this could have been?

Thanks

Chris

It probably was a crab of some kind as you think.

I hate to ay it, but the crab may have been commensal, meaning it just lived there and didnt harm the coral much if at all. Even if it wasnt commensal, and did do SOME harm, chances are the crab was just coincidence, and wasnt responsible for the overall decline of the brain.

In my experience with open brains is that once they do start to go downhill, they arent real easy to get back on the right track.

Out of curiousity, did you have the brain in the sand or in the rockwork?? Putting them in the rockwork sometimes can stress themn out as they dont have control of their positioning in the rockwork like they do on the sandbed.

I had it in the sand. It looked good for about the first week after we brought it home, then it really started to decile. It is very small. I tried out in the open in the sand then in a cave where it got about 2/3 the light then covered it some more for about a week at a time bet never seen a difference so I did put it on the rockwork about 5 days ago only up about 6 inches from the sand.

None of this has shown any responce by the brain. I will try another eventually.

Thanks

Chris
