Brain Coral
I brought 1 yesterday and I was just woundering where I should keep it.
I know they said brain coral should be place at the bottom. Does that mean on my SB, or on a bottom rock?
Right now I place it on my bottom rock about 2" above the SB, but I really want to know if I should move it to my SB.

I say sandbed. They have always done better for me on the substrate itself. I will even say that the first signifigant specimen i had i actually killed by leaving it up in the rocks and stressing it out.
my $.02

FWIW, i used to THINK my brains were opening up to their full potential. Now they open up 2 or 3 times what i used to think was max.

hate to be the one to go a different direction on this...but...before we can really give you any good advice....
can you tell us what KIND of brain it is? Open brain? Favites?
Can you post a picture?
Brain coral is a term that, unfortunately, is used a little loosly in this hobby. There are a LOT of different corals that are sold as "Brain Corals".
If you get us a nice pic..hopefully we can give you more information on how to take care of your new addition.

My open brains did good in the rock. Just be sure there is room for their flesh to expand. The reason is it can tear on the rock. Hence say put on the sand bottom!
Minedid seem to prefer the sandy bottom a little better however.....but I kept them mostly on the rock!

Yeah it does depend on the type of brain coral, I have a Rose coral from the Caribbean who is firmly attached to the rock he is on and its towards the top of my rock. That is where he recovered from being part of my tank cycle (he came attached to the live rock) but he is not the real fleshy type, he is a stony with massive tentacles. He might do better towards the bottom but all I have is PC lighting so its not too bright for him.

I don't have any pic of it right now and will not be able to till later this week.
I had it on the rock and move it to the sand bed last night. However I got a Sleeper Striper Goby and it is throwing sand on the Brain coral. I am thinking of moving the Brain coral back on a rock which is about 2" above the sand and the Sleeper Striper Boby does not throw sand on that 1 rock.
Odd, but the Sleeper Striper Goby throw sand everwhere, but that 1 rock.

Cool thread. Thanks for the repost. It DID instill a question in me though. I have about 6 candy cane specimens. Or so I thought, now im thiunking 3 of them are trumpets. How can you tell the difference. I do notice that 3 of them, when open, definitely touch each other, one of these, the largest, i acquired from twitterbait, who called it a candy cane, so that one i will assume is indeed a candy cane. What disginguishes candy from trumpets?
