Blue Throat or Pink Tail Trigger

Now supposedly these two are fairly "reef safe". That being said there are a few definitions of "Reef Safe"

I have a mixed coral reef, clams, shrimp (fairly big) and starfish.

Will either of these work? One better than another? Anyone have any experience w/ these guys??

I have them both but not in a reef tank, They never go after snails , hermits , Just mellow fish, The pinktail alittle more agressive then the bluejaw, I would worry about having a clam with them, I have been wanting to try someday,

I added a blue jaw this week. My cleaner shrimp died a month ago so I finally felt ok adding a trigger. If the shrimp was still around, I wouldn't have gotten the blue jaw. So far, he has been a complete gentleman with my Blue and Purple tangs, 2 black percs, chromis, leathers, polyps, deresa clam, etc. However, if I woke up one day and someone was missing a limb, I wouldn't be shocked. I have a LFS that I trust 100% and this guy said that I had nothing to worry about and I believe/ed him.

Ok so it sounds as the blue jaw is a better option.

Do you guys have the male or the female blue jaw?

The male appears to have better coloring correct!

Here is a pic of my male blue jaw from 5 minutes ago .
This website has the same pic for male and female but I think the females are more blander looking.

Yeah this is supposedly the female, less color, and missing the yellow highlights on the fins...so I read!

Thanks for your picture. He looks good!

i have a 5" male blue jaw in my tank. it has not bothered any of the corals or clams. i do not have any crustaceans in my tank right now. just have not gotten any. i do not feel it would be a problem. Xanthichthys spp. have small zooplankton mouths. so most crustaceans should be fine.

Got the blue jaw yesterday, how long did yours hide after introduced to the tank.

He pretty much has lodged himself between two rock and spent today there. He has moved aroubd a little but not much. The shrimp have been cleaning him up though!
