Bloke's DIY Corner Stand & Canopy

http://s166.photobucket.com/pbwidget...1&t=1176246792
I bought a 36 corner from Lynne and had to build a stand for it. AGA wanted $250 for their black particle board stand. I spent $80 at Lowe's and made this out of Red Oak this last weekend. Let me know what you think. I am open to criticism since this was my first ever - and it felt soooo good!

I still have to stain it and seal it, but i hope to have it finished by this weekend - as long as the humidity in the air doesn't foul things up.

I have 60lbs of LR waiting for me to get this thing up and running. I plan to use some slab rock as well for some shelving. I want to run an SPS tank so I want to get things right from the start.

As far as fish, I already have two true percs waiting for a home. I also thought about a Yellow Tang, but I know the Tang Police will come out in full force. I am not sure why though - I've seen people put Yellow Tangs in 12g and 29g nanos!

Any suggestions?

I've been thinking of building a custom tank but I don't know the thickness of glass I'd need. Say 2' high 4' deep and 6-8' long

WOW - I would guess 1/4" glass would work. Dave (dngspot) is thoroughly loving cutting glass. he might be a person you can talk to about thickness. I think he does most of his work with 1/4" glass.

wow what was the thickness for the curve? THat looks really good. I'd like to build a canopy for a 72. and then if at all possible I could just wrap the already existing bottom. what do you think?

I used 1/4" oak to wrap around the top of the canopy. there's no way you would get 1/2" or larger to bend unless you perforated the back.

Thanks for the complimenets - believe it or not, I'd never built a stand before. I do know that I will NEVER buy another stand as long as I'm in this hobby. They sell you garbage for big money when you can spend half the money and make a REAL furniature piece.
