Blenny Keepers out there?
My wife just fell in love with a Bi-Color Blenny at our lfs. I myself would like to keep this cute little fella that might not live too long because PetCo has this belief that they should keep their specific gravity at way below natural seawater for their newly arrived wild caught fish. But that's another topic that needs to be addressed.
Anyway, is anyone keeping Blenny, particularly a Bi-Color. What do you feed this fish? Please share your experience about this fish and does anyone have any links for more information about this fish?

The Bicolor is easy to take care of, and seem happy in a moderate sized (50 - 75 g)tank. My own prefers chopped seafood to any prepared food, and will pick at the green algae growing on the glass. They are jumpers, so keep the top covered.

I love mine. He's a character always backing into holes in the live rock.
I got mine the same place and he's lived for a few months so far.

Bob, the Bi-Color Blenny, is the family fave at our house! He's been in my 55 for two years, he was the very first fish in the tank. Always amusing; it's funny watching him watch us.
No problem getting Bob to eat either, he eats everything I put in the tank but they are great algae eaters. He eats off the rocks and the glass, chomps on the sheets of Nori I clip in the tank.
Blennies are some of the best all around reef fish you can find. Good choice!

"CQ" the name my daughter gave our Bi-Color Blenny is really fun to watch. It's character is just so amazing. Right now, he's the only one in a 10 gallon refugium setup I just started and he's really making himself at home in the life rock and small piece of 1/2 inch pvc I placed in the tank. I'm still waiting for him to get use to us so I could get a close up picture of him someday.
I've read they are herbivores after purchasing him and I was worried he wouldn't eat live brine or other prepared foods. I was wrong when I placed fresh Selcon fed brine in the tank, I could stop watching until he ate all the brine shrimp. The way he peaks out to look around is just so awesome. Thanks for your post and I sure will repost this as soon as I get some good pix.
Please, feel free to continue this post about your experience with your blenny/ies and how they react with your tank

I used to get a kick out of the BiColor at my fave LFS. It lived in the 240 reef and would back into the output tube of an 802 power head (on a timer) and get launched when it started up

I thought I'd share a picture of CQ with you all. He seems to be very happy in his new home. He just so much fun to watch! Then again, he's probably saying the same about me

Due to this topic I became inspired and immediately went to the LFS to purchase one of these bicolor blennies. Unfortunately, they only had a lawnmower blenny. I did not want to go home empty-handed therefore I purchased the lawnmower blenny. I only regret not buying him sooner. He has developed such a great personality not to mention the terrific job he does on the algae.
thanks for the tip Guys!
Gary

Bicolor blennies are really cute, very hardy fish. Be careful, however, as they sometimes eat Montipora polyps like we eat corn on the cob. They can also nip at clams. I do not consider them 'reef safe' nor should they be sold as such.

Glad to have inspired you. Just like many animals out there, a fish's personality can catch anyone's attention. I hate to point fingers but, many fish at my lfs is almost guaranteed to come down with ick.
Good luck and we welcome your new tank member!

cubera: Hmmmm, that's the first time I've ever heard that in connection with bi-color blennies. I know that Red Lip Blennies can often be onery buggers but I have never heard or read anywhere that bi-colors were anything other than a good safe reef fish. Is your comment from personal experience?

I have a bi-colored blenny and he eats whatever I put in my tank.He is a fun one. His eyes are what gets to me. Rolls around as if I was in trouble or didn't agree with what I did. He goes around my polps and doesn't eat them.I thought he might be eating them but he isn't.He has found a big shell to sleep in. Funny!!!
