little baby acro's
Just wanted to post an update on the baby frags. All are doing VERY well.
I've mounted 2.
1st pic is of one of the teeniest frags I made, and how good it's doing. Already grown OVER the glue, and a bit down the base. The other is a half dozen of the frags still on the rack. Also growing over the glue already!!

It's good to see them doing so well, keep your current up and your water quality high. Once the base is encrusted, axial growth will take off, and you'll need to make your final placement of the frag in your display tank. The frag will morph to make the most of its location, so placement at this point will be important.
frags are coming along nicely!

well, crap! I was planning on giving them 3 or 4 months before I traded/sold them. Are you telling me that waiting that long might not be a good idea?
The two frags I want to keep, I've already placed. But those 6 others will probably grow completely over their bases within two weeks. Then what?

Heh! Yu'll be giving away small colonies!
If you're using frag plugs, place a plastic fender washer under the plug next to the colony so that it will encrust over that, then when the plug is cut away, the entire colony including the base can then be placed in the tank. Otherwise, transplant the colony to a piece of rubble or marble tile to let it continue to grow. Mark orientation to current on the tile so whomever gets the frag will be able to orient the frag to depth, light and current as it was in your tank.
Congrats!

They are all already on a piece of marble tile. I then made a plug out of 2-part putty, and glued it to the bottom of the tile. So I think I'm good to go?
Just wait until Axialites form, then mark orientation?
does orientation matter at this stage? I'd think, once they're way bigger, yes...but if the axialites are just starting, I imagine it could shift genetical engineering again, quite easily.
just asking.

A wide open field where there is a lot of money to be made (genetic engineering)!
When the axial corallites form, you can mark the orientation on the bottom of the tile, but until they get reasonably large, this is not a BIG deal. For tanks with really good lighting (receiving tanks) this is prolly not an issue, however for those that are trying to use marginal lighting (deep water with minimal VHO's for most acro's would be an example), this will be important. Most other corals (like softies or solatary polyped coralsA) this is a non issue.
Are you going to make it for the 22nd?
