bleached anemone

I aquired an anemone which I believe to be a sebae a couple months ago. When I got it it had a damaged foot, and was(still is) badly bleached. see pics at http://community.webshots.com/user/mersotmj
I have had it under 250W 10K MH in my 29g and it does not seem to be getting any less bleached. Is there anything I can do to help it regenerate its algae. It seems to be healthy and is always extended, and feeds well on silversides and squid, it just isnt gaining any color. I got the anemone with the hopes of saving it from a untimely death and I shall not fail! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What if any corals are in the tank with it? It may need a culture of zoox to regrow. Sebaes can be finicky perhaps horge or one of the Fla guys can help out

Here is my H. crispa saga:
http://www.angelfire.com/on2/hesaias/clownanemone.html
Its no end all to anemone care, but its what I went through with my anemone.
It took a couple of months to begin recovery, and almost 6 months to get to the stage at the bottom of the page. Hang in there.
Feed it often, and a variety. I used Formula VHP about once a week, along with stuff from the seafood market at the Grocery store. If its not hungry, it will spit the food out, or not take it. Keep the water quality up, and have patience(sp)
You'll do fine!

Thanks for the page link Hesias, nice little progression you have there. Your right about most anemones being in poor shape BEFORE being brought home, I picked out the absolute healthiest specimen I could find when I got an LTA, and it wasn't till awhile later that I notice some foot damage. And even though I thought it had good color at the time, it has since gotten very brown, I call it getting a tan! Wish I had some earlier photos because now he is HUGE and very brown.

One side note, I have heard "I just brought it home to save it" so many times! I've even tried it once myself, I'll never do that again. Even the healthiest specimens are a real challenge. How come I never hear "I saw this sick, emaciated fish knocking on death's door so I bought it to try and save it!"

MM- keep up with what you are doing, the light sounds sufficient, just experiments with lots of fresh & frozen foods to found out what it likes. My LTA used to prefer formula 1 - now it's main diet is whole silversides soaked in Zoe. Good Luck!!!

The only coral species in the tank are some assorted shrooms, colt, and bubble. In response to no one ever saving fish, I do that too! My picasso trigger and coral beauty dwarf angel were both frail and sickly when I got them, now they are healthy and happy. Id like to show some pics of them but my camera sucks and I can not compress them enough to post here. Thanks for the advice and links everyone!

I really enjoyed seeing your pictures and to know that someone out there is having success with anemones. I see them in the LFS all the time and keep telling myself no, no,no. My tank is only 6 months old and so far I have had great luck, thanks to the fine folks on this message board.

Thanks again,

Homer

You must be providing them a good home and good care, that's awesome! Keep on with what's working for you. Good luck with the annie.
