bleach for cleaning

I was just cleaning out my filter sock with water, but it is still brown and dirty after 5 minutes of rinsing. I've heard that you can use bleach to clean these, but it seems to me that bleach would kill everything. Is this a safe way to clean a filter sock?

I'm not sure but I personally would not use bleach. I would probably try vinegar first

to clean the sock u use a little bit of bleach and rinse it very well. I then I air dry it for a couple of days and the bleach is gone. Just make sure that when u are done rinsing it, that it doesnt have any bleach smell when u are done

I wouldn't worry about the brown coloration, if all the detritus and other particlates are gone your good.

You can use bleach, but make sure there is no bleach smell after you get done washing it. After using bleach you can use a tap-water dechlorinator to neutralize it.
