Ah so that is what does it...I didn't know what sucked all the O2 out of my tank because I have very few fish in a 180. Learn something new everyday.

yup, HUGE po;ulation of trophic bacteria and other benthic critters, even the algae in the top 2cm layer become net consumers of O2 once the lights go out.

...well, I'm waiting for Jerel's comments on this...

Just wanted to bring this back up. How is everybody doing now? Hope there were no more losses

Jenn, I know you have a connection with Ottawa - I've being checking the b. board of the local reef club, some of my reefin' buddies up there had big losses...

Unhappy

SAD NEWS - I am in New York City and I lost all my fish except one clown. I also lost my cleaner shrimp. I had these guys since the beginning of time. Its hard to believe they are gone and the most frustrating thing was that I could nothing about it. The temperature fluctuated from 72 degrees to 85. My corals seem to be ok, but we will have to see. Everything is back up and running and all the parameters seem to be ok. I am just crossing my fingers and hoping that there will be no more casualties.

I'm starting to lose some SPS now too, not sure if it is RTN (I have no idea how to ID that), or just bleaching.

I'm sorry to hear about your losses, PaintGuru. I hope you can minimize the damage with the corals.

Blackouts are not good! Especially if you have a reef tank! Sorry to hear of all your losses! Looks like things are turning around as far as the black out goes!

28 Hours out!

Glad they make "Inverters" also my main tank is currently tore down & I'm just keeping the LR in a 32gal tank with a couple of powerheads & standard florescent lights until this fall! I also have two fresh water tanks that I used another inverter on. I do need to get better batteries thou I had to use my car to charge them up! I’m going to look into getting a generator before this winter! Here’s a link to a
Emergency Power Backup That will help transfer the power if your not home!

before and after

Interesting shots from space of before and after the blackout in the NE US at www.spaceweather.com. I dunno if this link will stay good for more than a few weeks, so check it out while you can.
