Hey - I realize this thread is slightly dated, but still wanted to update in case anyone was interested.
I have a BioCube 29 and upgraded my entire canopy to the 1.70 HQI (14k) with two 10k compacts and R2 moon light upgrades from Nano Tuners
I spoke with them for over 45 minutes over the phone and the guy answered all of my questions - heat related issues, benefits of going to the four-compacts vs. halide, etc.
Basically, based on their experience the 150w HQI do cause heat degredation on the splash guard, and over time cause heat discoloration and slight warp - even with upgraded fans. This seems to be an issue directly related to the 10k HQI as opposed to being able to manage the heat with a 20k.
I added one of the new JBJ mini artica's and they're going to notch it for me and get everything pre-installed (I'm not one for DIY) so basically everything will be plug-n-play once I get it - they're even including the hosing and pump setup.
My impression is they have tons of experience and options for nano/bio cube lighting upgrades - so far would definitely recommend contacting them if you're looking for any custom work.
You can also either choose to send your current canopy in to have it customized or order a new stock one.
