OK, your in a bad situation......
Now the thing to do is to figure out how to back out with the least
amount of new damage.
First thing I would do is to call the company you ordered the fish from and try to stop the order, even though you paid maybe they can give a credit or something add anything new will just make it worse.

Only 4 more I guess. Come on!! I want to see some fish in there!! Damsels and Chromis hide all the time!! Beside I am excited about it. I might get a BiColor angel, and a Henioculous Butterfly or maybe a LongNose one... Depens on what comes alive and healthy.

The way you have it ,is that you'll see your fish alright(floatting on the top of the water).

Dear God, let's hope so! I keep thinking of that guy with the column tank someone posted a YouTube link to a few weeks back. At the very least that guy had a "professional" aquarium maintenance company set up his tank. It sounds like this guy is going at it alone. I would find it hard to believe that anyone would spend the amount of money this guy probably has on his tank and livestock without doing at least some very basic research.
John Kh, if your situation is real, I feel very bad for you. You have put yourself into a hard-to-manage situation that is going to be difficult and slow to correct. I really urge you to take Randy's advice. He knows his stuff. That really is too many fish in too small of a tank in too short of a time! I really hope you're able to correct this problem without doing too much more damage. If at all possible, find a nearby hobbyist who might be able to hold some of your fish until you can turn this around. Look online and find a local saltwater aquarium club. Ask if anyone in the club would be willing to help you out.
And for heaven's sake, DO NOT put any more fish in your tank until it has cycled and stabilized.
You said your LFS told you it was perfectly fine to just use tap water with a water conditioner for your SW tank. Did they give you any other advice that you might have any questions about? When did you put your fish in to your new tank? Please do not tell me you bought your new tank AND your livestock at the same time.
If you are serious about running a successful tank and providing a good home for your fish, please ask as many questions here as you may have. Read, read, read, and do you your research. Listen to the advice that the experienced ones give you on these boards.
I hope you want to do right for your tank and fish and don't really have the attitude of, "Come on! I just want to hurry up and put in a lot of pretty fish and watch them swim around." Many of us have made mistakes and given into impatience, myself included. But if you listen to the good people on this forum, they should be able to help you out.
Good luck!

The best thing you did was come to TRT, and start asking questions. It sucks that you don't have a local store that can help you. I have a couple local stores that I frequent, and without their mentoring would never have attempted a SW tank.
Good luck, take a big step back, and start fresh again by going S-L-O-W.

Come on!! I want to see some fish in there!! That is the worst excuse I have ever heard. There are already 15 fish in there. How many do you want in there? Becasue that is how many dead ones you will have. Did you just go by your LFSs advice on what to do before you did anything? That should be the first lesson learned, dont ever believe what they say. Never take advice from someone who is trying to sell you something. PLEASE PLEASE do not add anything else in your tank for the fish's sake. Everyone on this wonderful site has made mistakes and rushed things before. But you have put the cart before the horse. Please do A LOT more research before adding anything else. Do look at letting someone else hold your fish while you get things under control.

I hope you take these suggestions. They may seem harsh, but its true. But don't feel to bad, if you really didn't know, now you do. Although you probably should have at least gotten a second opinion about what you could put in your tank. The LFS may have told you it was O.K. but no book or forum would have. If you put those new fish in there, there is a 95% or higher chance they will die. Damsels are hardy and thats probably the only reason they aren't dead. I really hope you don't have to learn that lesson the hard way.

Well, 3 days after, the tank seem fine for me. The fish look bright again and the colors are more vivid. Nothing is dead so far. Thank you all. I will think about getting more fish twice before doing so. And probably no more or maybe just 1 more.
Anyway the skimmer is working fine, not like crazy again. I used some Vitamins, Bacteria, Iodine or whatever it is calles... Plus I am turning the O3 thingy for like 2 or so hours per day. And everything is better now. Hopefully it will keep on staying like that.
Thank you all for your time and advice.

My apologies now but have you not learned anything? You say "maybe just 1 more". Your tank does NOT need anymore fish. That is part of what is wrong with it now is you got ahead of yourself. Now, its time to sit back, enjoy the tank, enjoy the fish, and let it all get settled in. Not adding "maybe just 1 more" fish. NO MORE FISH!

You are welcome. But please don't let the time and advice be in vain. Slow down, no more fish, and simply enjoy it for the next 5-6 months and let it settle in.

Me personally, I wouldn't. I would let the tank settle down. The fish can handle the nitrates from the cycle a lot better than corals can. Your bioload is high enough that you seriously need to let it sit and cycle before adding anything else to it. Give it time to settle in, get established, and be able to support the corals instead of adding corals now and having them die because of something in tank not being stabilized yet.
Remember, the only thing that comes fast in a Reef tank is disaster. Slow down, be patient, and enjoy the tank rather than trying to get in a hurry.
