BH plumbing

I just posted this on an other site, but I'm in a rush as I gotta go to HD before i go to work and wanna get this stuff while I'm there.

Can someone help me plumb the back of my BH's? They are the slip kind where the pvc pipe slips into the back of the BH.

What I was thinking is: BH --> 90* elbow (pointing down) --> union --> valve

Hows that sound?

sounds ok but make sure you give yourself a few inches of pvc out of the BH before you glue on the elbow. Also make sure you install the BH BEFORE you glue anything on.

Why the few inches after the BH before the elbow?

that way if you need to cut it later on you don't need to replace the BH. you just glue a new elbow on to the extra pipe you have.

Is this for an overflow or for a pressure connection (i.e. CLS)??

If it's for an overflow it would be best to use silicone for the glue opposed to the PVC cement on slip bulkheads. Silicone allows the pipe to be loose enough that you can pull it out when applying a bit of force, and is still watertight.

If this is for a CLS disregard this post.

Wharyat, Yes it's for a CLS, but I'm gonna need to add BH's in my external overflow. So, thanks for the tip.

Twitterbait, Thats what I figured.

Thanks for the quick replies guys

A guy on the other site suggested that I use the ball valve before the union. This way I can shut the valve "before" I took the pipe off. Makes sence to me. The way I have it above is bad. In the above senerio, even if I shut the valve off, the water would shoot all over the place as the union is before the shut off. This could have been messy. It was also suggested that I may wanna go with a dual union ball valve, but I'm still trying to figure out what it is and how to apply it to this senerio.
