Wait.

Seriously, the only way to lower it safely is to let it lower naturally or do a huge water change...

8.5/8.6 is at the high end of the "safe zone". Like greg said, let it lower itself naturally to avoid stress to your inhabitants. Stop dosing anything that is affecting ph/alk. Check your top-off water levels and your test kits.

What are you using to test alk? Why cant you get a number?
What are you using to test ph?

im using marine lab red sea ph and alk tests. there is just a color scale on my alk test that goes from low- medium- high. Kinda stupid i know. I did a 25% water change right before i tested and it came up higher than normal. Im savin up for a ro/di unit. this could be the problem but im not sure...
