best way...

what id the best way to catch a fish. I had put the damsel back in the main tank but it wont stop droping sand and shells on everything. Its started bothering my xenia as well so i think going back to the other tank is best. Anyone have any idea how to catch one? without tearing all the rocks out of the tank. thanks

Try this . They are used in my LFS when they try to get fish moved from the reef . Others have had good success

I forgot to look for something while iw as out of town yesterday and was hoping of a more DIY method. Thank you for that site i hate to spend 40.00 plus dollars to catch one fish lol. It was fine at first but its driving me crazy moving all the sand to two areas and bugging everything. *its making huge piles and has started bugging the clowns as well so time to move him back. thanks

Ok . Well the next thing is 2 nets. You just have to chase um. It's tough .If you didn't want to catch um he would keep going in it . Never fails .
Best of luck to you .

i looked up some info and founda bottle trick im trying first if that doesnt work then ill jsut chase him down. i just rather not stress him or the other fish out. its kinda a pain since my clown hates the net and attacks it the whole time its in there lol.

Dynamite, M80'es (real thing, not the fake ones), C4, all of which are illegal. You blast it underwater, it stuns the fish and they float to the surface for you. You scoop them up, clean them, cook, oh wait, you want to keep it alive. Hmmmm

Make a fish trap with a 2 liter soda bottle. Cut the top off right where it starts getting smaller at the top. Cut the very top off large enough for the fish to get in. Turn the top inside out so the fish can go in but has to hunt his way out. Bait it with his favorite food, then be patient.

ok.. this reminds me of my painful time with the diadem dottyback.. lol i feel EXACTLY what you're feeling right now! I dont know how smart is your damsel but my dottyback was the smartest i've ever seen!
Do not use the net.. net to them is like gun to our head.. if you keep chasing them.. they'll know that you're trying to catch them so whenever you come close to the tank.. they dart into rocks! Ask your LFS to rent a trap like BIOWHEEL mentioned.. mine LFS let me rent for $5, no time limit! My dottyback did get in the trap, I closed it.. so freaking happy, ran into the bathroom to get the bucket.. my son out there.. freaking pull the wire which i forgot to leave it higher.. and the door open.. you know the rest!! i still leave the trap in there though, but he never come close to it! luckily there's a rock i just moved that got a one-way hole in there.. he was curious.. he got in.. i put my hand in the tank.. used my thumb to block the hole and bring the whole rock out!!
That's my story of catching a **** fish!! you don't even know how happy i was.. still am! Goodluck catching yours! Again.. be patient.. one trick can only be used once.. they know whats up..!

Okay this thing is smart he has many areas cleared so he can go around and threw the rocks. I put the bottle in to catch him he wouldnt go that route so i after a few hours i moved it to another area of the tank and he just avoided it. The shrimp got curious though... so after two days and three different areas to catch him he wouldnt even bother going near it even with the food in it. sigh ill have to talk to the LFS next time im up. I didnt think it was gonna be that smart lol. I might try a big mouthed bottle and see if he trys that having more room. i dont know though he could fit in this one he just would rather wait. but i need him out hes picking the crap out of my xenia the thing looks so poor that im about to move him to my 10g for now until i can catch the dang fish. lol

Okay the first time i tryed the damsel wouldnt go near it and a crab knocked the end off lol. so i gave up until last night when i noticed the damsil picking up shells and droping it on the xenia the poor things look horrible from it picking on it so i figure id give it one more shot i just used fishfood *flake* in a 20 oz coke bottle. i look up after 20 mins hes in it *guess he perfers flake over the frozen lol* i get up to grab the bottle and he figured out how to get out before i got it to the top of the tank lol. so i put it back and wait and hope hell do it again knowing it probqably wont work a second time but i guess he was hungry or bored or whatever cause he went in and i got the bottle out fast enough. so the damsel is back in the 10g. So the 20oz bottle trap worked out. im just glad i didnt have to buy one they cost so much for how little it would get used. hehe.
