Best host for a clownfish?

What does everyone use as a host? I have two percs and a sebe and I have tried lta with no luck...they wouldn't go near them and I couldn't keep them alive...they would hide under a rock. Any suggestions?

Here is a links for ya:

Note: Clownfish will host to other type corals in your reef tank. My maroon host a flowerpot coral and there have been several different species of corals hosted by clowns as others will say. You also need a very well established reef tank and unfortunately anenomes love to move around thus killing other corals and getting sucked up in powerheads and overflows! Johnny

You dont need an anemone as a host for clowns. My false percs took to my purple cup coral and my elephant ear shroom for a while. When they went to my goniopora I got an anemone to entice them away from it. Not only are goniopora difficult to keep, letting clowns host in them can stress the coral out and keep them from extending out their polyps causing death.

I have seen clowns host button polyps, yellow polyps, toadstools, colt corals (very popular), ricordea etc. There are many choices out there that you can choose and avoid anemones. They get into too much mischief.

Our percs live in our Yellow Polyps.
I personally don't recommend keeping anemones.

Nice pic, Alf2!

My Maroon clown has hosted with, in no particular order, a Gold Crowned Toadstool, 2 different Open Brains, a bubble coral and fuzzy shrooms.

My various Percs and Ocellaris clowns have hosted with star polyps, fuzzy shrooms, Ricordea, Capnella and a branching Hammer. One of the little Oscellaris fell in love with a large Hawaiin feather duster and it was the funniest thing I've seen to date in my tanks. He would just lay on the duster and when it would close up with that circular motion he would go round and round with it until the duster closed up enough to get back in its' tube.

I would just pick the corals you like for your tank and your clown will figure something out. If the coral seems irritated by the clown's attention though, you may have to "encourage" him to find something else.

My perc stays in my large colt. In the mornings, it looks like he is being eaten. somtimes, all you see is his face, or maybe a tail. It's like the colt lovingly wraps him up at night and cuddles.
