Nassarius snails are good for keeping the sandbed stirred up without eating the other creatures that live in the sand and help keep the detritus cleaned up (spaghetti worms, bugs, bristle worms etc etc).
Hermits are pretty good scavengers. As much as I hate them they are a necessary evil.
Other than that, if left alone, your aquarium will naturally produce most of your clean up crew on it's own.
DEFINATELY AVOID:
Sand sifting stars, sand sifting gobies, anything that 'sifts sand', picks up sand and drops it out of it's gills, or has the title 'sand sifting ...... ' in it. These animals will consume the things that help your sandbed and are counter productive to
detritus removal. They are often billed as detritus removers but in fact eat the detritus movers.
