best/cheapest place to purchase pvc gate valves
I was hoping that the local home depot carried them but they only have the metal ones. I know the metal ones wont work with saltwater, so I was wondering of what places you guys recommend to get something like this? Im using it to control the output of my skimmer.(just incase someone asked)

I buy mine at Home Depot, did you look around or ask someone there?
Lowes, Ace Hardware are to other places that sell them.

You can get stuff in lots on ebay for good prices...for singles getting a good deal on plumbing parts like that is pretty tough. I get decent prices through my father who is in the pool and spa business, but even his prices arent as good or any better than the lot prices i have found on ebay, but you have to spend $100+ usually to play that game. For singles........if someone knows.......id like to know as well
After shipping the single prices you are going to get at home depot are probably your best bet as far as i know.
oh...i just noticed you already went to home depot...they SHOULD have them at the end of the pvc aisle.

I think i might have to take a trip to lowes (too bad its so far away) since the home depots around here are always understocked and never have anyone working the plumbing section. Ive searched the home depot by me and came up with nothing. I feel like I know the plumbing section by heart ever since I got into this hobby. I even get people asking me plumbing questions every once in a while when Im there

I have never seen lowes or HD not have them. They are usually located on the top shelf...6' or higher.

Yeah, I agree with liquidlunch - I've never seen a HD or Lowes that didn't have an assortment of valves. They are usually in the pvc fittings section and they have sizes for 1/2 in up to 2 or 3 inches.

Why a gate valve and not a ball valve. One of the characteristics of a gate valve is that it only needs to be a bit open to get a lot of flow. A ball valve is much more linear in control of flow. If you just want a shut off though for maintenance or something a gate valve is fine.
