Question

Berlin Turbo Skimmers

Can someone give me a little feedback on these skimmers?

How do they perform on a 55-gal? Are they noisy? Is there anything better for the money (<$200 - i can't afford a lot).

Thanks
Daryl

I had a Berlin Turbo for about a year, and for the same amount of money I would get the Remorah Pro. I finally got the Remorah and like the ease of cleaning and the performance. Don;t get me wrong, the Berlin did a great job for me, except the pump got real sensitive to being moved around after about 4 or 5 months, every time I bumped it it would stop working or would go to half power until I knocked it around. On another board I have been to the turbo model Berlins have been thrashed to no end. I have never used the regular old Berlin, but for awhile the turbo did good for me. The airline to the pump would get clogged, but all this can be avoided by routine maintenance, cleaning the pump and lines and such. I didn't have as many problems with them as I have heard other people having. The performance of the Remorah is better I think, and it is way easier to clean the cup and all the parts. I needed a hang on the back skimmer however, so if you have a sump your options are greatly increased.
Hope this helped a little :santa:

I actually bought Demogarr's Berlin -- it kicks @#$% on my 55 gallon. My water has never been so clear. It does act up at times, but in my reef, this skimmer has been the least of my worries.

Yo reefer94, I am glad it is working out great. Like I said it worked great on my 75 for 4 or 5 months, then you will have to deep clean the pump and airline, after I cleaned the pump it didn't do the half power trick anymore, but this is routine maintenance, and I bet it is kicking out the gunk on a 55!!( of course reefer got it at less than full cost!) A little less anyway hehe.
By the way what exactly is happening when you say "acting up" maybe I can tell you how to work around old bessie.

another two cents

for under two hundred bucks you can get a turbo floater, I have run this against berlins and other brands and it collects quicker and give you denser waste. Maybe someone else has tried em on the board? they are great skimmers at a good value.
