What are the Benefits of having a bare Bottom Tank? Is it just for Aesthetics? Are there any cons to it? why would someone do it this way?

aesthetics is not a reason to get a bare bottom tank. Sand or substrate bottom tanks look better than bare bottom. However with a bare bottom u never have to worry about a red algea substrate. Bare bottom tanks makes it easier to clean up uneaten food, poop, and other unwanted items.

It is much easier to remove poo, control nutrients, and allows you to have high flow rates. I love bare bottom systems and mine has been very sucessfull even with soft corals. I have much less algae as well.

Cons: some may not like the asthetics, but you could paint you outside bottom white like casey or make a faux sand bed like Geoff.
Also, you need alot of flow to get detritus sweeped off the bare bottom and over the pipes into the skimmer.
