BB Tank
Would it be better to raise my rock off the bottom of the tank say 2-3 inches with pvc and eggcrate.Im setting up a new tank and was just thinking is it worth my while? It would keep the detritus from getting stuck.Should i bother,I am kinda bored waiting for my tank to cycle.
Its a 90 gallon with a 90 gallon sump.

yes raising it off the bottom will be best in the long run. try making a PVC stand . either in smaller section or a larger one that will supprt the live rock. you can stain the PVC with the primer ( make sure it is dry) and place the rocks o it and have a point or two of the LR over hang to cover or hide the PVC.
using eggcrate will end up collecting detrious and it most likly will not be strong enough once you stack your LIve rock on it. You really dont want the LR wall to fall

I used sections of PVC as stilts for my rock in my last tank and will do it in the new one also. It is a huge benefit like Tim said. It realy makes cleaning easier.

This is not final aquascaping but gives an idea. The rock will rest on the spray bar/stand and short sections of PVC legs/stilts to keep it elevated.
And the water is cloudy cause I cand find where the bubbles are getting into the return plumbing yet...grrrrrrr

So you dont think that the eggcrate with a few pvc legs would hold up,maybe not.dont want to take that chance.
Thanks for the pics ,i will try something like that

In my 55 I had all the rock sitting on pieces of PBC cut to about 1" to 1 1/2". each base piece sat on three or four of these "stilts" I didnt have the same spray bar design seen in the 150 I have above. It worked great. The pics above are of the spray bar in my current tank and it is a spray bar plumbed into my CLS. Its drilled to blow water under and behind the rock so nothing can settle there. Everything gets pushed to the front and stays suspended or if its too heavy to float it collects in a pile for easy siphoning. Works great.
