Bb Fo??

I'm thinking of sucking the CC out of my FO tank and leaving it BB. This Cyano is killing me and I don't know what else to do. What are your opinions???

It will be easier to clean I would think - Do you have any fish that require substrate?

no there's an atlantic blue tang, leutenant tang, stars and stripes puffer, and niger trigger. a clean up crew is tough because of the puffer.

It should definitely help get the detritus out with no crushed coral

i think that it is a great idea. that is the way i had my wife's predator tank. make cleaning super easy. you will need really big rocks though to keep the chances of the rock slipping to a minimum. using something on the bottom like starboard will help this also.

You could also use a shallow bed of crushed coral and vacuum it periodically too.

I have a shallow bed of cc. Less than an inch in most places. it's just cyano ridden and I can't get rid of it.

ok I just took the sponge out of my Powerfilter and all it's doing now is moving water. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Sponges aren't bad unless you don't clean them often.

ok here's ur pics. My only problem with doing this is I don't wanna stress the atlantic blue out. He was near death 4 days ago when I brought him home and now he's one of the boldest fish in the tank.

Yup, that's cyano alright.

If you're worried about stressing the fish, how about just removing a little bit of the CC at a time each time you do a water change?

What's your flow rate like?
