Basement or furniture
big decision guys. please tell me your input in this matter. right now tanks are in my playroom, i have to be very careful.(wood floors, no water on top floor and the humidity and temp are a problem. i diverted all vents to blast on sump. I love watching at night, and the fact that thay are right there is great. If i move em to the basement, I could have a lab of sorts. The floors are angled to two huge drains, i'll have water for an upcoming ro/di,, and i will be able to experiment and build projects. Upstairs im kinda scared to do anything, it has to be kept pristine, and can take absolutely no risk. I just think it would be more fun to be able to experiment.

Hello,
I have a 120 in the diningroom, but I plumbed it into the basement. So I have a 55g sump with all the ugly stuff down there, and the main tank upstairs. No water or noise upstairs, splash all you want downstairs. Let me know if you are interested and I can try and help.

I have all my tanks in da basement. I have 3 SW tanks and 2 FW. We have a de-humidifier running 24/7 though. My basement has flooded twice in the last 10 years, so there was already a certain "funk" in the air, although it smells fine now, but if I spill a LOT of water on the floor (like I did the other day) the smell comes back. But hey at least its on cement. Theres very little/no sunlight in the basement. Which is ok, Plus during the hot season its always a little cooler down there. But then again I have some very elaborate and entertaining aquariums, and im pretty much the only one (save for a few friends) who gets to enjoy it, because its in the basement.
So maybe do like I did and put a nice HDTV down there and a circle of couches, coffee table, mini fridge, whatever, make it a hangout kinda thing. Ultimately one day I will have each of my walls down there covered with an aquarium.

I keep things in the basement, but our basement is finish as nice s the rest of the house. The family room down in the basement is where we spend all our time. That is where the tanks are. it stays cooler and darker the way i like to view the tank and watch TV. In the winter we will spend more time up stairs. Sitting by a fire in the up living room.

Definitely the family room. I pass my tank all day long and often pull up a chair and just stare for hours. I love it, and people who come over are enthralled with it. They love to ask questions about the creatures, and it gives me someone to talk about my fav new hobby with, yey! Kids, most especially, just love to explore.

What an answer, Krackel! It developed before our very eyes
I am soooo glad that my house is one level. That means I don't have to think about where to put my tank See that beautiful hard wood floor? It used to be covered with a tacky blue-like carpet, and my sister and a friend helped pull it up. We just cut the carpet around the tank, and voilá! This pic is a few years old, tanken right after the carpet was removed.

Very nice Cath, The floor looks nice, It must have been a 60 - 70's thing to cover wood floors. Just like in the 50's painting solid wood furniture .LOL
I use to buy alot of walnut and oak antiques and have to strip the paint off before we sold them. The old varnish is what save the the furniture. make it easy to strip the paint. I'm way off here .
