Base rock to live rock.

I got about 50 lbs. of nice looking base rock today. Completley dry and white though.

So I pressure washed the rock to get rid of the dust and I am planning to put this rock in a rubbermaid with pleantly of lighting and a nice mag 12 for circulation. and then put a big chunk of premium live rock over it to seed it. Will this work in getting the rock to cover in coraline, algae, bacteria, and other wise become live and colorful?

I only did this in my old 90 with half base rock with half established rock and it took six months or so to look the same.

Not sure how stuff in a tub will do without light and water changes and fish poo and the rest to react normally with the rock. You might end up cooking the rock you do have.

It will be fine. I used 405lbs of base rock in the display along with 15lbs of live rock in the display and 60-somelbs in the fuge on my last tank. It took about a month to start getting green coraline. About two weeks later a little pink was starting to form and now, about two years later, my base rock has thick coraline. In fact now the really thick stuff is growing and encrusting. I'm very happy I did mine this way although I did have a few hick ups along the way

if the rock is clean, i would put it in your tank, i think it would do much better getting coraline and such started in the system than i a tub.
