Base Rock?

My 300 has been in storage for years and I'm just now getting my 125 going after a 2 year learning process with a 55 and a 27. Long time salt water hobbyist from the 70's before live rock. Back then we used UG filters and lava rock or tuffa rock. I still have a bunch and thought about using it for a base in the 120 & 300 with new live rock combined.

I like sumps, deep sand beds with plennums as well as macro algae in my setups. Seems to work well with few issues but I have low bio loads too.

If it works for you then it works for you. I wouldn't use a plenum or have macroalgae either, but that's just me. If you use those old rocks, you may want to "cook" it first to purge them of phosphate and other built up wastes. Any plans for a protein skimmer?

Yep skimmer is on my list too.
