Yeah...I just got some frags at my local meeting last night. I can't wait to add the sarcophyton. I'll set it up with some shrooms and colt corals as well as GSP. Should look pretty nice...

As an electronics technician with 11 years of Navy experience I will pass on to take both balalsts out of your hood ASAP before you run it for any length of time. I am very serious about this.

Quote:
protective cover of the eclipse has been cut to allow for a lot of air flow, and the canopy is very airy as well.
Salt water is VERY corrosive to sensetive electronic components. You are looking for a sure fire short and possible fire with it mounted insde. Even with a fan blowing across it. The inside of a tank hood is very humid and has a high salt content in it. By cutting openings in the protective seal on this lid you have now let salt and water get to the components of the circuit board. Circtuit board tracings are commonly made of copper and corrode very easily with salt water.

Only type 2 outdoor ballasts are safe to mount in conditions that are less than optimal. ie freezers, water exposure. etc. That means it is fully sealed with gaskets in any opening to prevent water ingress.

FWIW.

Thanks Brook....I'm going to test this for a week or so the see about heat, etc. before adding any corals. So far the difference in appearance and intensity is striking. Take care.
