Background Application
I'm wondering if someone knows the best way too apply background too a tank? I've heard too put baby oil on it then apply. Sounds kinda silly but if it works. I just think the tape thing is so tacky.(no pun intended) I was wondering if soapy water would work? Like applying auto decals.
Thanks

If your background is the same height as your tank, you should be able to slip it under the trim on the top and bottom - no tape needed.

Oh, I thought you were applying for a government job or a permit to carry a concealed reef

How well do the typical LFS backgrounds work? Like the Penn Plax ones. I'm not really wanting to paint the back of my tank & can't find anyone who carries the OceansVisions (self adhesive, removable) backgrounds either locally of online (well found one place online, but they are out).

Running pest patrol on my computer so I commandeered Christy's.
I just got back from the drug store and I need a urine sample within the next two hours for your background please.
Seriously though, the background seems a lot like applying window tint to a car. What the pros do is add a couple of drops of detergent to the distilled or RO water then squeegee it to get rid of the bubbles from the middle to the edge. I would avoid any kind of oil as there is no way to avoid bubbles if they contact even a drop of moisture. I am going to test this out tomorrow on our crappy background that doesn't stay on in the little dwarf angel time out tank. My car stuff is buried someplace in the garage.

I think paint works so well...takes 5 min and looks great.
I used the textured spray paint.....it's billed as looking like stone (gray or brown with black flecks). Looks great from the front (for 1 year, then with the corraline, you can't see it anyway.)

I agree with paint!!!
Our problem is that we always set up the tank then a couple of days later decide to add a background. It is hard to do a lot with the tank planted.

I finally bit the bullet and painted my tank. It was easy, looks great, and I wish I had done it years ago. Here is a pic that shows what those Penn Plax backgrounds look like very quickly. Condensation in the air between the vinyle and the tank causes it to stick to the glass in uneven blotches. You can see the blotchy effect on the solid blue background in this pic.

Ditch the background. Paint it with Latex paint. Lasts longer, No water gets behind it (if you do it right and looks better than that paper stuff.
