Babies!!

Well, my wife has passed her due date but the peppermint shrimp had tons last night! What do I feed these little guys? By the way, the ten gallon tank they are in that I am using to fight the aiptasia war is working great. I take a rock from the main tank and put it in and 2 or 3 days later no more aiptasia!. Then I switch it with another pesty rock. Time will tell if they come back. In the mean time I want to beef up these tiny shrimp.

I have heard that they are VERY hard and time consuming to try to raise, I would suggest take a tukey baster and suck them up and feed your main tank.

Congrats Gary ;

They can hunt just after the hatch so give them some food ;

Newly hatched artemia, but not more than 1 day old. If they stay in the tank for more than a day, the larvae cant eat them and choke or something bad happens. I dont think all the larvae can eat newly hatched artemia but there is chance. Or rotifers may help but hard job.

Shrimp rearing is very hard, they have like 4 or five stages requiring different diets or care. I'm not very sure but just try artemia

Good luck

Golden pearls are supposedly an artemia "lookalike". I wonder if that would work.

RE your wife...is this ya'lls first? Usually the first is a week or 2 late. Which is nerve racking when you've already been waiting so long....and feel like you've been pregnant for a lifetime. Chinese food seemed to work for me both times.....I went into labor early the next morning. Coincidence? Actually I'm sure the walking & being pulled down the street by a bull mastiff/lab mix contributed as well.

Peppermints

Hi, Gary. Very cool that your Pepps are breeding. They are quite troublesome to raise to adulthood IME. There is a great article on raising these from the University of Texas at Galveston. I don't know if you have seen it already. I'll track down the link and post it for those with an interest

Thanks for all the input. I like the idea of feeding them to my main tank. Quick and easy! My wife doesn't like that idea. Boy, she would have had a fit if she knew me when I had a puffer that I feed live babie guppies to. I try and explain that whole "circle of life " thing to her but she thinks the babies are "cute". Yes Allyson, this is our first child. I'll have to try the chinese food thing. Even if it doesn't work, I get a good meal out of the deal!

I tried to put two female guppies in with the male in my daughter's FW tank. I told here she wouldn't have to worry about too many babies as the African frog would take care of them and get nice and fat. She was horrified!
