Question

B/W "Clams" taking over tank...any suggestions???

Hello,

I have been noticing quite a few small "clams" that look allot like "Mexican Sunset Clams" cropping up all over my tank.

They are between 1/4" to 1/2" in size and are B/W Striped (from the hinge-point to the outer edges). They have a mantle that looks like sharp teeth, in fact these "clams" sort of look like Venus Fly Traps except B/W.

Does anyone know about these creatures and if I should remove them before they take over?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

They sound kind of cool - could they be "barnacles" or "muscles" of some sort....I found one of those in my tank recently right at the water line, I am guessing it came from a "spore" that rode along in the live rock......It is not in plain view though.....are these really "all over" the tank.....it may be a bloom of some sort that will wear itself out....I would keep watch and ride it out for a week or so before doing something drastic...

I have counted at least 15 so far. They are "lightly" attached. I don't think they are barnacles or muscles but I don't for sure. Their shape is sort-of triangular in a way. I wish I had a pic, it would make this so much easier.

Checked on Zebra Mussels and they are VERY similar. The stripes go in different direction, but everything else seems the same.
