Awful start to Tues. mornin'...

I woke up this morning and went out to look at my "buddies" and my new bubble-tip I got YESTERDAY, was partially sucked into intake of stupid mech. filter. I'm at a loss for words. It wasn't enjoyable at all to pick my new friend, (let alone my Clarkii's new BEST friend), out of filter components. *sigh* Our first "loss". I have a small portion of it still and it almost appears to be moving. Researching now on any possible way it may survive.

Hmmm....I don't know. The nem was probably 6" across and now is 2". It is alive but is it possible he may survive? Our twin 5yr old boys have finally stopped crying. Awful awful awful.

You think thats bad?

I woke up about 30 min ago to a flooded floor... My sump was more full than it should have been from me tinkering, normally it will run dry before an overflow.. BUT since it was full the partial clog of my overflow line caused an overflow.

Yea that's pretty bad...lose anything? I don't know what I should do about my anem..still has a foot and attached to a rock, but is it POSSIBLE that it may lose 70% of it's mass and live? Should I remove from tank in fear of polluting?

yes, it's possible that it may recover. I've seen them shredded in powerheads and survive. Keep a close eye on it, but give it a shot.

Will it be super evident when it "expires"? I'm really concerned that if it is dying or does, that it will release nasty toxins. QT now? Don't touch now in fear of stressing more?

i'm confused, did your overflow clog and the sump pump pumped too much water into the display causing an overflow?

If your worried about toxins, run carbon in a reactor. And about when it is evident when it expires, Yes, your tank will smell HORRIBLE!!! I had a sabae that I put in one day and was dead the next morning. You could smell it from the other side of the house. (My tank was just finished cycling, LFS said it was OK. We don't shop there anymore!)

Correct... this was my fault for having too much water in the sump... I had been tinkering and accidentally had my ATO running and got about 3 gallons too much into the sump... Of course once it pumped the excess out onto my floor, the ATO kicked in trying to fix the low water level so it probably pitched in another gallon or so.

Overall it wasn't a nightmare, I have all tile so it came up easily.. just a crap way to wake up.. but hey once I was done I hit the P90x so it's all good.

In case you are interested, I was "playing" with pinching off my lines from my overflow with a pair of wood blocks and screws... This would cause the lines to be completely full of water all the way up to the siphon box... this made the entire overflow scheme work COMPLETELY silently... It ran perfectly all day under my watchful eye... all was in perfect harmony... when i say silent.. I mean jsut that.. SILENT.

That little POS got in the tube and caused a blockage... that upset the balance, level in the siphon box rose, level in overflow box rose, level in tank rose... SPLAT.

I would have been ok but when the water level got up over the filter sponges that little piece went in through the center . Perhaps I can go back to the pincher block and jsut put taller sponges on my overflow tubes.

I took off the pincher block for now ans also turned off my ATO to let some water evaporate.
