Arrow crab's role in a reef tank-----NOT GOOD! I had one in my old 72 bow reef tank and watched him standing over a sea urchin pulling out the spines! Won't have another one! Johnny

P.S. Also they love to eat bristle worms which is very important to your infauna in your DSB!

They also are known to spear a fish on occassion. That long probosis isn't just for looks. They've been known to carry the carcass around on the end until they've finished eating it. But, horrible rumors and the fact that like all crabs, they are insatiable opportunists aside, not everyone that keeps arrowcrabs has problems with them. It's a bit of a gamble whether yours would turn out to be a modle citizen-and then stay that way. If you have a large tank, you could probably overlook the ocassional depredations of a single little crab. Personally, I won't keep one in my little 55, no matter how cool they look.

I've heard nothing good about arrows in a reef.

And besides that, they remind me of spiders!

(shudder)

Shack,

I had a little one. It was one of the 1st creatures in my reef. I loved it and it was highly entertaining and did a great job cleaning the rock after the cycle. THEN... it grew, and ate my 3 cleaner shrimp and tried to eat my powder blue tang. Freaked the fish out until it swam into my overflow and died. Even right after feeding it a large crab claw, it went over to a cleaner shrinp, de-capitated it and chomped it right down. Needless to say, it was evicted to the LFS and some other poor s***er got it. If you really want one, get it small and remove it as soon as it get remotely aggressive.
