AquaC EV-120 Skimmer Output

I have a AquaC EV-120 Skimmer hooked up to an Eheim 1260 (635 Gph) so it is a very high flow rate through that particular skimmer. My problem is that at the moment (cycling the tank) I can only run it at night because my girlfriend can't handle the noise of the output of it because at the moment I have it above the water line of the skimmer section in the sump. AquaC recommends that the Output Valve be completely above the water line but I was wondering whether anyone here has an EV skimmer but runs it with the output below the waterline or anyone can see how I could do it as I can imagine it would greatly reduce the water splashing noise that I currently have.

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I think that the only reasonable thing for you to do is to find a new girlfriend that isn't so sensitive to the sounds of our hobby

Try suberging it it half way. It should be fine. The reason that it is suggested to have it above the waterline is due to back pressure issues which leads to a surging or varying level inside the skimmer. There are still things you can do to releive the backpressure if you need to completely submerge it, but going 1/2 way should lower the noise considerably.

i'm running an EV-180 with the outlet just below the waterline.
make sure thatthe water in that compartment is stable, and does not go up or down due to evapoation.

you'll need to play with it to get it right, and not overflow the cup... lowering the outlet below the water creates quite a bit of backpressure.

good luck!

With the AquaC EV Series, tinkering seems to work best. And once you get it where you like it, things in your tank will be very happy.
