Aqua Medic Tanks

Do you guys/gals the other side of the atlantic have aqua medic percula tanks?

I've never heard anyone mention one yet and was wondering if they are marketed over there? maybe they are called something different?

Heres a pic of mine

They are basically plug n play sw tanks, everything is included

Heres a pic of the front

Just curious

Matt

What's wrong with having bio-balls in there?

As it seems you guys have not seen this type of tank b4 heres a little description of how it works

Firstly water from the tank flows over this comb into the skimmer chamber

Then as my dodgy arrows show thats how it flows through the compartments

After the water is skimmed it flows up through the blue sponge ( apparantly the sponge is there to take the micro bubbles out from the skimmer but i've taken that out and i do not have any problems with bubbles)

Then it trickles down through the bioballs ( i've taken them out and filled that chamber with small frags of live rock

then the water goes into the center chamber and gets pumped back into the tank, this chamber is where i get all my evaporation from, the level in the main tank never drops its here that i lose water

The chamber i've marked as #1 is a dry chamber and where all the cables from pumps and heater blah blah run into the cupboard below and #2 chamber is where the circulation pumps are housed

bio-balls or any other surface that is exposed to air will cause an increase in nitrate levels. exposed surfaces do not contain the bacteria needed to break nitrates down to nitrogen. they are great at breaking ammonia and nitrite down to nitrate, hence the reason your nitrates will go up.
