Apocalypse 2005

My mom really loves animals and especially my tank. I have come home to find her at my house watching it. I decided to get her into it. I bought her a small 25, 60 lbs lalo rock, filter and tons of livestock and coral. She felt that she was ready to really just take over all duties.(I had maintained it) She wanted to clean the glass, so she bought sponges and went to town. The sponges were antibacterial, microbial doo-dads. Everything dead in 2 hours. I tore it down last night and filled it this morning. I am planning on waiting a bit for livestock. Anyone have this happen, any precautions? THANKS!!!

Ouch, wash it out very well; I use vinegar and isopropyl alcohol.

Well, unfortunately she learned a lesson.

I am changing water in full daily. I feel so sorry for her, but she did come to understand how sensitive our little water buddies are.

That is horrible. I am so paranoid about doing anything to the tank and even use isopropyl before sticking that vacuum tube thing in there.

The only small positive is that the thread title is one of the best ever.

Sorry that happened but hope it doesn't dampen your mom's enthusiasm for the tank. Time to enroll her in "Reefkeeping 101" and stress the importance of keeping the tank free of any contaminants whatsoever, particularly the "Windex Rule"!

Good luck with the second round.
