Is there some formula for displacement of the LR?

Uh, you can measure the displacement and do the math (cubic inches/231=gallons), but LR density is variable so there's no calculation based on weight.

there is an online calculator to figure out your total water capacity, but like chris said, it varies slight due the the differences in live rock, but here it is anyway...

Yeah thats what I thought. I was hopping to get at least within a gallon or so... guess its gonna still be a guess?

Garf.org has a simple calculator ... you provide the size of the tank, depth of the sandbed, lbs of live rock .. they give you the water volume.

Hard to be "EXACT" because each rock density is different they the sizes of your hoses to and from your sump,skimmer,U.V.,etc...
