Question

Anyone with dwarf angels?

I've been thinking about adding a half-black angel to my reef tank. I know that some species can be problematic, but I also have heard of several people who kept Centropyge without incident. Does anyone have any experience with C. vrolicki? My tank is mostly LPS.

Any comments appreciated,
Bill

well, i've kept a coral beauty in my tank for over a year now. although i am always on the lookout for behavioral changes, i've witnessed only a few, isolated "picking' incidents, usually without any damage (looked like he was trying to pick something off of the surface of the coral). other than that, i haven't had any problems, probably because i keep him well fed hope this helps...

I have a C. argi in my 125; she's always been a perfect little lady, well accept for eating the sponges but I knew that would happen. It's part of their natural diet.

I'm pretty sure that Bill-e has a half-black in his reef; maybe he'll see this thread.

I have had a flame angel in my 100 gallon for years. Never have any trouble with it at all. Pretty fish!

Bill,
I've kept a Cherub Pygmy (Centropyge argi) in my 55 for 2-1/2 years. She gets along very well with the Ocellaris pair; Lawnmower Blenny; and 2 Neon Gobies.
Mine has never bothered any of the corals, polyps, or anything else that I could ever tell. At one time, Doug1, Alice, and I each had one with good experiences. It is not a certainty that any Centropyge will have the same behaviour, even the C. argi, which is generally thought of as the "safest" pygmy. I have read reports from others that theirs were munchers.
As for the C. vrolicki, I have had no experience but here is the FishBase Species Summary:

Thanks everyone. If I see a nice specimen we'll find out if I have the courage to try.

Jeff,
I haven't kept a Potter's but they are known to not ship well. Some MO vendors will not guarantee live delivery for them. They will eat most anything, including coral polyps, clam mantles and inverts, according to Scott Michael's Marine Fishes!

I have a Centropyge bispinosus (coral beauty) in my tank now. Love the fish, almost as much as it loves my xenia. It's on the eviction list when I dive in to remodel later this month. It seems that about every other day he (she?) will snip some tips off my zenia polyps, but doesn't bother anything else.

I have a Centropyge nox (midnight angel) and although I haven't had it long (2 months) I haven't had any corals nipped at.

I just bought a Flame angel and it died 2 days later. It didn't die of any disease, but the concensus seems to be that it was already sick when I bought it, probably from the stress of shipping. I had read that it was among the hardiest of angels, but that is if it survives the shipping process I guess. Also, avoid the bicolor angel; hard to keep in captivity also.
