have you done anything different with your skimmer? where is the carbon in the system? i was reading about Matrix Carbon, but nothing out of the ordinary. try removing it for a day or two.

i quit running my skimmer last week because it wasnt skimming but i must confess it is a sea clone i know i know i need to get a new one, but the tank is mostly softies so i figure they will be ok i jsut got tired of cleaning salt crep out of the air line and it would skim for an hour or two and quit, but i do pretty regular water changes and have no algae problems so i dont think my doc's are too high. the only other thing i can think of is that i fragged some shrooms of my mushroom rock, could the musrooms have started chemical warfare becaseu they were bothered?? i just moved the tank at the end of november and replaced the substrate. i dont know what else oh yea the carbon is in a hob filter with no bio wheel it is the only thing in it

That carbon is good quality - I doubt that was the cause. Yes, chemical warfare with fragged corals could be a concern - replace the carbon with fresh - any carbon is most effective within the first 12-24 hours of use. If there's some chemical warfare going on, I'd replace the carbon and perhaps do a small water change.
Skimmer - even if that clone isn't working up to snuff it's better than no skimmer - I'd either fire it up or bite the bullet and get a good one.

it is a colony geoff, i changed the carbon last night, i plan on getting a new skimmer i just really haent had any problems without it and now it is christmas time and my money is going elsewhere, i will go order one right now, it has to be hob so i was gonna get a CSS 65 galon model as the tank is a 30 high, i jsut dont think it has anything to do with the skimmer as i ahve had the skimmer off for a while and this just stated a few days ago, and like i said its not that they are jsut closed up they also seem to be black. oh yea the colony started as 2 zoos and i ahve had it for probably a year or so
