Protein Skimmer help

I've got an Eheim 1260 as a return pump and an eheim 1250 as a protein skimmer pump (I cant use powerheads as I need all pumps to be external as temperature is a problem.

Can anybody see a problem with using a 1250 (317GPH) with a Aqua C EV120 Protein Skimmer?

http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_..._ev.asp?CartId=)

Would there be enough flow????

that looks way underpowered for that skimmer.

recommended pupms are:

• Mag 500
• Rio 2100
• Dolphin DP-560
• Iwaki 20 RLT

or equivalent.

when trying to size pumps to skimmers it is important to look at the max head height of the pump. it is not a good idea to go down in head height even if the flow is greater.

I just ordered a mag7 for the EV120 I have coming. If you go to the there website and look at the manual they say you can overdrive them using the bigger Mag7. I read a couple articles about people overdriving them and getting better results.

ok based on that would an eheim 1260 work (635GPH)? I really like the eheims (if it isnt obvious)

I am far from an expert but dont see why it wouldnt work, the max head on the recomended Mag5 is 10.5' were as the max head on the Eheim is 12.1' along with the extra 135gph over.
