Some type of rock boring worm, not sure on the name. Look after the lights are off and you will see little worms that come halfway out of the rock and eat stuff.

Had one that looked like that - but it was like a segmented worm and would come out of the sand near the LR, only at night

Welcome to TRT!!
do not know. i would have said peanut worm droppings, but they usually fall apart almost immediately when they are released.

is this something I should worry about? will destroy anything in my tank? have four blue leg hermits, four snails, two percula's, and small button poylup rock with six poylups. have been up and running since nov. 04. I also turned on the tank lites this morning and found hundreds of small translusant bugs of some sort crawling all over my live rock. any clue to what these guys may be? thanks to all you that replied. remmy.

Don't worry about the worms, I havn't had any probs with them. Little translucent bugs are copepods and amphipods, they are a good food source to your fish.

thank you for all the info. one more thing, I just put 5 new replacement hermit shells in my tank and one hermit that had out grown his shell moved into the biggest shell instantly. the shell is much to large for him and I havent seen him now for 2 days. will he be ok. without being able to forage for food. he seems to have hermited into his new home.

they usually wont go into a shell unless theyre sure it will be suitable, so trust the hermits judgement.

absolutely not, think more along the lines of a 90 gal tank with about 125 lbs of live rock with a DSB that has been up and stable for about a year or more. Sorry on the mandarine dragonette.
see this link for Amphipods
and this link for copepods in Indonesian Rock

yeah, I guess even in a 30 gallon full of copeopods, the mandarinfish would eat most of it within a week or so. It probably wouldnt have enough time to replenish itself.
