Anyone know the scientific name of "spongebob squarepants" sponge..
I have seen one of these yellow sponge's in someone's tank and wanted to read up more on them and see how much they cost etc... does anyone know where you can get them..??

Sorry, honest, i did try to look it up and find something to get you in the right direction but i couldn't find anything close... if it was really square shaped i'd guess that it had somehow been 'pruned' or coaxed into that shape artificially cause i've seen a lot of ocean nature films and i can't say i've ever seen really square shaped yellow sea sponges- so really i thought you were joking. There are corals referred to as Pineapple, and i assumed thats where they got the idea to make Spongebob live in one....

I honestly thought I read somewhere that Spongebob himself was based on a square kitchen sponge...
But as to the bright yellow ones, we've got them, or at least had them at one point. They hitchhiked in as spores on the LR and just grew. We didn't know we had them until we upgraded tanks and VOILA! Yellow sponges in the dark spots. IME, they don't like the light, and I've never seen them for sale.
