I think I've seen various types of sponges sold at tampabaysaltwater.com and you might check out some of the other online livestock dealers.

Square yellow sponges are artificially made. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of yellow sponge species. None of them are square naturally.
This is no different than asking what company made the boat that Spongebob took his driving test in. It's a cartoon. They aren't real. Sponges don't have bones and aquatic creatures don't drive sunken boats underwater. The creators did a decent job of using real animals, but they've created many false conceptions as well. It's a cartoon. Remember that.

Your right Mrs. Smith...The irony of the show is that he is an artificial sponge.

Sponges are members of the Phylum Porifera and can be broken down into 4 major classes based on their skeleton-like support system which can consist of spongin, which is a network of protein, (the stuff we use to wash ourselves) and/or spiccule which is made of either calcium carbonate or silicon dioxide (glass). The major classes are Calcera, Hyalspongiae, Sclerospongiae and Demospongiae. Oddly enough I knew all that of the top of my head. Can you tell I teach Bio? Sponge Bob is artificial.

Yeah, but he's a slacker and hasn't been posting of late!
And actually, I associate that avatar with Jeremy1973 moreso because he uses it on our local board... you threw me for a minute, there Cath... Andy may be a slug on weekends, but he really is a vertebrate with a calcium-based skeleton!
