Anyone have these test directions?

a little while back, seeaffe was looking for a copy of the directions for a test kit, and someone had them...

hopefully someone has these .... because TheFat-MORON-Man lost his

SeaTest Calcium test kit.

1 large test tube, 1 small test tube, Liquid reagent 1, Powdered reagent 2, and LIquid reagent 3.

i remember all the steps.. adding each reagent, counting the number of drops in reagent 3, etc....

anyway, i know that afterwards, you are supposed to multiply the number of drops, by something....can't remember what that number is..

I'm THINKING it was " 20 " but if so...that would mean my calcium is at 600 !! because i had 30 drops before the solution turned blue.

I have never been able to get the calcium over 375 before, but i was using kents liquid. Now i got my kalkwasser reactor hooked up, and tommorrow i MIGHT actually get the calcium reactor side of it hooked up and running too. But i might wait a few days to make sure everything is stable. I ran all my tests tonight, and everything looks great, but for the life of me, i can't remember what number ot multiply by to get the final number ANYONE?

my alkalinity tests at 7.5 meq/l also.. this sound ok.. the test booklet says to shoot for 2.5 - 5.0 i'm a bit over that.. is that ok? Could be because there isnt enough co2 in the system yet, as its only kalkwasser... oh, kalk mix is kents powdered kalk. being dosed as top off water, via a float switch in the sump.

any help with that multiplier would be greatly appreciated!!

Jay what does the test kit measure, CA++ or CACO3? If it's CACO3n then multiply the number by .4 to get the result in CA++ which ios the result you are used to seeing...

Either that or the multiplier is 15, I used to have one of their tests but got rid of it a long time ago...

If I'm not mistaken those test are actually made by Hach, and with the Hach test kit the final result has to be multiplied by .4...

nope its not .4 it was either 15 or 20 but i couldn't remember which one... 15 rang a loud bell in my ear!! thanks .. that's the one.. in which case it would give me a reading of : 450 which sounds much more reasonable than 600

the seatest and fastest kits are made by aquarium systems.. not sure if that is ultimately owned by hach or not..

thanks for the help cyberchef i thought 600 might be a bit of a jump

Jay, my alk is usually 2.5- 3.5 meq/L. Yours sounds a little high to me. What's your pH?

ph is 8.3

up until now i have been using seachem reefbuffer 8.3 , as needed to maintain the ph at 8.3

yesterday i started up the kalk reactor for the first time. i'm evaping about 3 gallons a day now, since the addition of another 220 watts of vho lights. so, 3 gallons of kalk mix was introduced today. the ph maintained at 8.3, but the alkalinity went up from 5 to 7.5 and calcium went up from 375 to 450.

i'll get the calcium reactor running in a few days, and maybe that will balance it all out.

i'm gonna do more test this afternoon and see if the numbers have balanced out since yesterday. maybe the alkalinity has come down some.

everything in the tank seems to be taking it just fine. all the corals are opened as normal. the feather duster is out. the fish are swimming around as normal. and all the snails, starfish, crabs, and shrimp seem to be fine as well.

your on the right track, just need time to let the Calcium/alk reactions to stabilize for your tank.

You're spending all that cash on the equipment for the tank and scrimping on your test kits...

Salifert rules, everything else drools...

whatever

1. i asked about the seatest and fastest kits before i purchased them, and was given the go ahead.

2. salifert is not available here, i am limited to aqaurium pharmeceuticals or fastest and seatest (not to mention, in regards to shipping... the seatest and fastest kits locally, cost MORE than salifert kits online )

3. when you need it NOW, waiting on shipping is not an option.

4. i only deal with ONE online vendor, and they are in california. so most shipments take 5 days to get here via ups.

although ,fwiw, i am planning to get salifert tests, when these run out. i jsut have to order them BEFORE i run out, or it'll be a last ditch run to the local lfs for replacement again

heh!

You should check out Joy and her stuff at HA, great place and super folks, they have Salifert (although she really got me on the rubber coral at MACNA... ) They are in Valpariso, close enough to overnight to you cheap, either there or at Dick Perin's place (Tropicorum), which would be a great little road trip for you, great livestock there.

Hach makes the sea test kit for them, I don't know about the fast test... hach does not own the company..
